Let’s be real - when the cake’s been eaten and the flowers have wilted, your wedding photos are what you'll have to look back on for a lifetime. So choosing the right wedding photographer? It’s kind of a big deal.
But with so many talented folks out there (especially here in the Seattle–Tacoma area), how do you even begin to narrow it down? Here are a few tips to help you find the best wedding photographer… for you.
1. Start with Style
Photographers each have a unique approach, whether it's true-to-life and documentary-style, warm and moody, light and airy, or bold and dramatic.
Before you dive into inquiries, scroll through some wedding blogs or Pinterest and notice what styles you’re drawn to. Then, look for photographers whose portfolios reflect that vibe consistently - not just one or two lucky shots.
✨ Pro tip: If you're into crisp, true-to-color images that tell the full story of your day (candids and portraits), you’re our kind of people.
2. Read the Room (AKA, Their Website + Reviews)
Beyond pretty photos, check out the photographer’s tone. Read their website, stalk their social media, and dig into reviews. Do they feel like someone you'd vibe with? Are their clients raving about the experience and the images?
You’re trusting this person with some of your most emotional and meaningful moments, it’s gotta feel like a good fit.
3. Ask About the Experience, Not Just the Price
Your photographer should be more than just a camera-wielder. Ask about what’s included, how they help with timelines or posing, and how involved they are in the planning process. Do they guide you or just show up on the day?
If you're not sure what to ask, here are a few starter questions:
What’s your approach on the wedding day?
How do you help us feel comfortable in front of the camera?
How many images do we receive and when?
What happens if it rains or something runs late?
(And yes, we have answers to all of these and more in our Wedding Experience Guide!)
4. Make Sure You Actually Like Them
You're going to spend a lot of time with your photographer on your wedding day - more than almost anyone else. You want someone who makes you feel comfortable, makes you laugh, and maybe even carries your bouquet when your hands are full. Seriously!
If you feel relaxed and excited when talking to them? That’s a great sign.
5. Trust Your Gut
At the end of the day, it’s not just about the portfolio. It’s about how you feel with that person. The best photographer for you is someone who sees your vision, supports your day, and captures the in-between moments you didn’t even know were happening.
You deserve to feel celebrated, comfortable, and confident with whoever you choose. So don’t settle. Find the photographer who feels like a friend, understands your vibe, and has the experience to deliver images you’ll cherish for decades.
